The first SUP-Polo World Games “Mexico Edition” presented by Surf Mexico
and Starboard took place May 13th and 14th, 2015 in Riviera Nayarit. As a location the organizers choosed the breathtaking La Tranquila Resort and Spa in Litibu, Mexico, with its beautiful giant pools, definitely the best spot. The event was held at the same time as the ISA World SUP Championships, thats why many of the worlds top paddlers participated. Competitors from Australia, Argentina, Barbados, Mexico, Great Britain, Tahiti and Canada made the SUP Polo Games a great success and for sure one of the most entertaining stand up paddle events so far in Mexico.
One of the competitors says:
“This event was a blast. I think SUP Polo is one of the funniest things you can possibly do with a Stand Up Paddleboard.”
For those who have never heard about Sup-Polo, what is this sport actually about?
Stand Up Paddle Polo, or just SUP Polo, is a new sport presented by Starboard that does exactly what it says: Combines water polo with stand up paddling.
And it combines the fun of a team sport with SUP, all played out on inflatable boards inside an inflatable field, using the SUP Polo blade to shoot. It requires 2 teams of 3 competitors. The team that scores more goals than the other wins.
SUP Polo games are full of action, fun and incredibly entertaining to watch as well. Apart from the fun factor its a good workout for the whole body.
For us, as kiters, it seems like the perfect watersport activity for non windy days!
