La Ventana is the new ‘Tarifa or Cabarete’ for kitesurfing in Mexico, incredible mexican small town with perfect conditions to learn kiteboarding. La Ventana is situated only 30 minutes south of La Paz city, Baja California Sur on the magical Sea of Cortez, and it’s less than a two hour driving from Los Cabos International Airport. The locals says here is one of the most abundant fishing areas in the world. La Ventana offers intense ocean blue scenery and the contrast of arid desert landscapes. In this mexican village, you will be charmed by the amazing views of the bay, Cerralvo Island and the scenic mountains, many different plants and cactus. The area is the home to over one undred species of cactus. The incredible water colors, and for sure the friendly mexican people. Many kiters from the US and Canada drive down the whole Baja California with their motor homes to spend the winter in La Ventana. Everything in La Ventana is about wind and kiteboarding.
Lot of things to do in La Ventana, activities such as: watersports, windsports, diving, paddleboarding, kayaking, freediving, spearfishing, mountain biking, whale whatching, snorkeling, fishing or just chill out on the beach. The marine life is plentiful and fantastic. Excelent for long walks and trekking along secluded trails. At night you can join to a bonfire at the beach and watch the stars, have some mexican food in a local restaurant or listen a live band while you drink a cold beer at Baja Joe’s, Playa Central Bar or get wild in the Full Moon Party at the hotsprings beach (check the video). Eat some fresh and organic products each tuesday at the Farmer’s Market. Every year, during the months of December, January and March, La Ventana offers international kitesurf competitions, clinics and expos. La Ventana Wind Fest, La Ventana Classic, Kite Foil Goldcup and the traditional Expo Kite. La Ventana has flat water and in some areas you can find really good waves for kitesurfing Kite and wind conditions in La Ventana: La Ventana and El Sargento villages were discovered by some north american windsurfers on 1985, La Ventana town has become the perfect kitesurfing and kiteboarding destination thanks to the steady and strong winds from mid October to March, side shore winds and also to the ‘L’ shape white sandy beach. Large and huge beaches with many kite spots to launch and very safe. You can ride long downwinds and at the end catch the beach, not letting you end up to the sea. The wind usually starts around 12:30 pm and ends around 5:30 pm, average from 15 to 25 knots. When a north cold front arrives, the wind picks up event to 30 knots. La Ventana has a great wind conditions due to the strong thermal plus the venturi effect between two big mountain ranges. Winter temps in the 70°Fs and 80s°F, can get a little bit cold at night, we suggest to use warm clothes. The water in the 70s °F, you can use a shorty or wetsuit during the cold days. The kite season in La Ventana is from mid october to april. The best months are November, December, January, February, March. Best Direction: N, NW, NNW. The wind forecasts won’t show exactly the wind speed because they don’t detect the venturi effect and the thermal. The key to know if it’s going to be a windy day, is to check the correct direction (N, NW or NNW) and at least a minimum of 6 to 10 knots, then you can ad around 7 knots more.
