Playa del Carmen is at the center of the Mayan Riviera and gives a complete chillout atmosphere, small boutique lodgings, and a distinct european ambient. On the beginning it was a small fishing town, the tourism around the area began with the passenger ferry service to Cozumel Island. The tourist realize inmidatly that some of the greatest beaches and vibes in Mexico were to be found in the Riviera Maya, especially in Playa del Carmen. The visitors realized that it is a great spot to chill out away from the crowds of Cancun city but with nicer beaches and blue/turquoise waters. There are many water ‘cenotes’ (underwater caves) around the area. The town has one of the best and glamour main streets to walk in the Americas . The famous Quinta Avenida, or the “Fifth Avenue” is all pedestrian for 3 km, a line of boutiques, bars, resorts, restaurants and many shops. The people from Playa del Carmen and the government have attempted to retain Playa del Carmen’s reputation and charm as a friendly village and artists town. The town is very cosmopolitan, many nationalities and ages can be found walking in the streets, relaxing on the beach, eating in a nice restaurant, drinking a tequila in a chillout bar. “Beach” is Playa’s meaning in spanish, there are many services and amenities on town, Playa del Carmen is a true mexican beach town with everything at just a few steps away, especially the ocean. Kiteboarding Conditions and wind in Playa del Carmen: This is one of the most knowned spots in Mayan Riviera. This spot has been the stop for international competitions, like the PKRA. You can take some kiteboarding lessons our courses in the kitesurfing school. The only permitted beaches are Playacar and Cocobeach.
