According to the weather forecast Hurricane Blanca category 4 was not going to hit the coasts of Jalisco and Nayarit, however for the afternoon of June 8 strong southwest winds and big waves were expected at the coast of Riviera Nayarit. These wind and wave conditions are ideal for the beaches of Punta Mita. This natural paradise called Punta de Mita is located next to Litibu Bay and north of Banderas Bay. Punta Mita has beautiful white sand beaches, coral reef, restaurants and great hotel developments.
Several kiteboarders from the Riviera Nayarit went to the beach El Anclote, Punta Mita searching for such conditions. The forecast stated that the wind would start from 3:00 pm, so in the morning some decided to have a surf session right there and others to relax in a restaurant while waiting for the wind. Just after 2:00 pm big whitecaps were observed on the horizon and the leaves of the trees began to have life. The wind came unexpectedly for tourists and surfers on the beach, who opend the field for the kitesurfers.
Around 25-30 knots, sun, waves, kickers and flat water between the piers, built a full playground for all the lucky ones who had the opportunity to enjoy such conditions. Some kiteboarders flew over 15 meters high and others surfed the fun waves. Even the windsurfers went out to take advantage of wind gusts and waves. Undoubtedly, it was an epic kiteboarding and kitesurfing session to use all different kinds of boards, from twin tips, strapless surfboards to even kite skimboards.
Usually the wind is not very consistent and strong in Punta Mita. However, due to the thermal effect generated by the heating of the Valle de Banderas, the wind conditions are favorable for kite spots such as Bucerias, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Nuevo Vallarta during April to mid-June.
