Kiteboarding in San Carlos, Sonora

San Carlos is located on the Sea of Cortez, within the port city of Guaymas, Sonora. There are beautiful sand beaches, amazing snorkeling, diving, relaxing, kayaking, and offshore fishing. San Carlos has clarity and warmth of the ocean water in its shallow bays. It has consistent north westerly wind which blows side on shore at all the beaches in the area, that’s why is an spectacular kiteboarding location.

This sea side resort has many vacation rental properties, condominiums, hotels, many restaurants, golf course, tennis courts, a bowling alley, shops and two marinas. A lot of Canadians, Americans and foreign come here during the winter.

San Carlos is only a 250 mile, 5-hour drive from the United States, from Nogales on Mexico Highway 15, a four-lane divided highway. The nearest airport is at Guaymas (GYM), approximately 15 miles away.. Another routing may be made through the airport in Hermosillo (HMO), which is 75 miles away and then you can rent a car or take a bus.

Kite Conditions:

The bay offers flat water. Especially on Playa Algodones. October to April is considered to be the best kiteboarding season, the wind is more consistent in winter and spring. During the summer is hard to kitesurf.

During the windy season north westerly winds that blow side on shore from 15 to 25 knots. It usually blows around early afternoon. During the winter, you will need a wetsuit.
